The Wildflowering
Collective Inc.

A not-for-profit incorporated association established to support contemporary arts and cultural practice that engages with nature, place and ecological systems.

The Wildflowering Collective Inc. exists to develop, present and support exhibitions, public programs, creative research and cultural projects that foster care for Country and deepen relationships between people, landscapes, plants and the more-than-human world.

We are a collective of artists and cultural practitioners working across facilitation, curation, artmaking, research and participatory practice.

The Wildflowering Collective Inc acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work, live and create. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

Who are we?

The Wildflowering Collective Inc. has been established by a group of creative practitioners brought together through the ‘Wild/flower Women’ and ‘Wildflowering by Design’ exhibitions. We wished to continue the type of work and activities that relate to our shared interests in art/science, nature/culture and the power of creative practice for engaging, connecting and communicating.

The association has been incorporated in Queensland but has the potential to be a national organisation.

The initial membership is based in South-East Queensland but we are open to offers beyond, and other branches or partnerships into the future.

What is wildflowering?

The term wildflowering was created by artists/environmentalists Kathleen McArthur and Judith Wright, not simply to describe an interest in wildflowers, but as a way of seeing and engaging with the world. For McArthur, wildflowering encompassed walking, observing, learning, documenting and sharing an “art of seeing” that embraced artistic and poetic approaches alongside the scientific. The term describes a mode of creative practice grounded in deep attention to place, ecology and relationship, rather than a specific subject matter. (That is, yes we love wildflowers, but it’s not only about wildflowers!)
